New York state sues Harvey Weinstein and his company

New York state has sued Harvey Weinstein’s company due to sexual harassment allegation.

New York’s attorney sues Harvey Weinstein’s company and Weinstein over years of sexual harassment and misconduct.

The suit accuses that Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein sexually harassed and abused female employees. It also alleges that the studio failed to protect staffs and there is misused of the company’s resources from 2005.

Weinstein is facing numbers allegations of sexual misconduct, but he has denied claims to be real. A lawyer of Weinstein, Ben Brafman said many allegations did not have sound evidence and his client was not guilty.

Harvey’s brother, Robert Weinstein and several board members are also involved in the allegation. The state attorney general believed the company knew Weinstein’s behaviour, but paid employees for his harassment.

Westminster’s company, Weinstein Co. haven’t give response towards the case.

After the four-month investigation, the lawsuit had collected extensive evidence and multiple examples of alleged misconduct of Weinstein. Based on the document, Weinstein verbally threated several employees “I will kill you,” “I will kill your family,” and “you don’t know what I can do.”

The suit also portrayed how Weinstein forced female employees accompanying him to events. The primary job of some staffs was to serve him such as going to major events in Hollywood and facilitating his sexual pursuits.

According to the suit, Weinstein’s company will face a significant amount of financial penalties to victims. The bottom level of the compensation for each person is $250,000 (£180 379), and it will increase based on numbers of being harassed.

On October 2017, The New York Times first reported the allegation against Weinstein. Overall, more than 60 women have accused Weinstein of varying degrees of sexual misconduct. #Metoo campaign on social media went viral in November triggered by the allegation to Weinstein. Twitter reports that more than 1.7 million women and men have used the hashtag in 85 countries.

Weinstein’s company was in the process of being sold for up to $500 million (£360 million), according to report.
